Description & Function

Extended Life, Lightweight, Cool, Low Power. The IntelliSign/VMS™ module is a multipurpose, LED display designed to address both commercial applications and safety issues as outlined by Homeland Security and the Justice Department. The product line is available in various sizes with a modular architecture and brightly lit, highly reliable LEDs that are visible in bright sunlight from a distance up to 1000 feet. The LEDs are arranged as icons so they are easily recognized by motorists. This provides feedback to emergency vehicle drivers of intersection status as they navigate through traffic.

The displays have a removable innerboard for servicing and upgrading, along with a short-range wireless intelligent receiver to process commands and data from IntelliCorr™ intersection modules. This arrangement provides you with the flexibility to change the innerboard to use different LED icons for your specific environment.

The Emergency Warning innerboards provide a low cost, fixed intersection layout with flashing emergency vehicle icons that show which direction the vehicle is approaching and exiting the intersection and five selectable warning messages. The messages and direction of the emergency vehicle are coordinated with the timing of the traffic signal emergency preemption sequence, providing advanced warning to motorists and pedestrians, thus giving them time to react.

The VMS modules are mounted on each traffic pole, span wire, or mast arm, adjacent to the traffic signal, in the intersection.

 

In this example the VMS modules are installed at three intersections and controlled by three IntelliCorr™ modules. Each IntelliCorr™ is located in a traffic cabinet and communicates
with the IntelliSign/VMS™ over a secure 418 MHz radio link to all of the signs simultaneously. The radio broadcast is limited to 300 feet so that reception by another intersection is prevented. Each display is configured to interpret and decode the transmission for its location in order to display the appropriate emergency vehicle icon and warning message.

The IntelliCorr™ modules communicate with the vehicle transponders on 900 MHz frequency. The IntelliIntelliCorr™ module uses the GPS coordinates from the IntelliTran™ modules to set preemption sequences through the intersections. Conccurrently each IntelliCorr™ module changes the IntelliSign/VMS™ modules to display icons that show these emergency traffic patterns.

The VMS modules contains eight emergency vehicle icons that provide one entry and one exit icon per intersection leg. An icon is turned on for each vehicle that enters the intersection (when multiple vehicles are involved in an incident) and a separate icon when the vehicle is exiting.
