Description & Function

The IntelliTran™ module is a wireless transponder located in an emergency, public safety, transit or light rail vehicle that automatically transmits vehicle GPS location, speed and direction to each IntelliCorr™ equipped traffic cabinet on the emergency corridor. The next generation features of the IntelliTran™ module enhances emergency responder safety with advance clearing of intersections, in-vehicle display for intersection priority feedback to operator, and warning of multiple vehicle conflicts at the intersection. The IntelliTran™ module also provides GPS location tracking for better resource utilization, and additional interfaces for sensors, message displays, and mobile data terminals.

The IntelliTran™ detection of a code condition and communications to the intersection are performed automatically when an emergency call is in progress. When performing signal preemption/prioritization, IntelliTran™ provides accurate GPS position, real-time speed changes and turn signal indication to the nearest IntelliCorr™ equipped intersection to calculate the vehicle’s time-of-arrival and assert the preemption or priority input to the controller.

 

The IntelliTran™ constantly monitors the vehicle speed using the On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD II) connector for high speed vehicles or derived from GPS coordinates when used for fire trucks, mass transit and light rail trains that do not have the OBD II interface. An optional acceloremeter module provides automatic backup for loss of GPS signal. The IntelliTran™ transponder receives and responds to remote commands from the IntelliMon™ remote managment software for updated status, parameter changes, and tracking information.

When installed in mass transit vehicles, IntelliTran™ transmits its GPS location and speed to the equipped intersections to activate low priority signal prioritization causing the signal to go GREEN or extends the GREEN for the transit approach. For light rail trains, IntelliTran™ is installed in the forward and rear engine and transmits its GPS location and speed to the equipped rail intersections causing a high-priority transition to GREEN for rail and RED for opposing traffic.
